FG Approves Night Work for ₦43.65bn Mararaba–Keffi Road Project

In a bold move to ease one of Nigeria’s busiest traffic corridors, the Federal Government has approved night construction work for the ₦43.65 billion Mararaba–Keffi Road reconstruction and expansion project.

The 43.65-kilometre stretch, connecting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Nasarawa State, is being executed under the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme — a financing model that allows private sector participation in public infrastructure delivery.

During an inspection of the site, the Minister of State for Works, Hon. Muhammad Bello Goronyo, expressed deep concern over the slow pace of work and the daily traffic nightmare that has become a routine struggle for thousands of commuters — especially civil servants who live along the Mararaba–Keffi axis.

“The project is of national importance. The traffic volume here is massive, and many public servants are suffering. The government has granted approval for night construction to fast-track delivery and ease the hardship faced by commuters. The contractor must rise to the occasion and utilise this approval effectively,” Goronyo said.

The minister’s comments underscore the urgency of the project and the need for efficiency in execution.

In response, Mr. Dong Hong, Project Manager of China Harbour Engineering Company Nigeria Limited (CHEC) — the firm handling the reconstruction — assured that the company is fully mobilised and ready to deliver within schedule.

“We understand the importance of this road and the urgency to ease traffic. Our team is fully mobilised, and we are committed to delivering quality work on time,” Hong stated.

The approval for night construction is expected to shorten delivery timelines significantly, reduce congestion, and improve road user experience along this critical transport corridor.

The Mararaba–Keffi project is one of several being implemented through the Tax Credit Scheme, a creative financing approach that allows private companies to fund public road projects in exchange for tax relief. This initiative continues to demonstrate the government’s push for sustainable, collaborative infrastructure development.

The Ministry of Works reaffirmed its commitment to completing all ongoing projects across the country in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic recovery, infrastructure efficiency, and national connectivity.

As night work begins, commuters and residents along the Mararaba–Keffi corridor can finally look forward to visible progress — and a future where long hours in traffic become a thing of the past.

For the Federal Government, this approval is more than just a policy shift; it’s a promise of renewed speed, accountability, and progress in Nigeria’s infrastructure story.
