FCT Minister Wike Launches Transit Way (N2) Project with Two Bridges in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is set to experience another leap in urban connectivity as Minister Nyesom Wike officially flagged off the Transit Way (N2) construction project, a new road designed to link Wuse District to the Central Area through two major bridges in Abuja.

The project marks another strategic step by the FCT Administration to improve intra-city mobility, ease traffic congestion, and reinforce Abuja’s position as a truly modern capital city.

Speaking with The Chronicles of Construction, Wike emphasized that no modern city can thrive without a strong road network, reaffirming that road infrastructure is the lifeline of economic growth and social integration.

“There’s no development in any city without a good network of roads. When all the cities are linked, you can then talk about modernization and investment,” the minister stated.

He explained that he first took interest in the project during a site inspection near the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation axis, where private efforts had begun work on one section. The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has now taken full responsibility to extend and complete the project.

Minister Wike promised to personally monitor the contractors to ensure the project is completed on schedule, stressing that several critical FCT projects must be finished before President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

“No sector will be left untouched by the directive of Mr. President. If you are in charge of a sector, you must sit up. This is about speed and commitment. My team knows that I call at any hour, and phones must be on 24 hours. That is the level of seriousness we require,” Wike declared.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to rehabilitate over 40 schools after the completion of the N2 road, adding to the 70 schools already under rehabilitation, with 45 completed.

Dismissing critics, the minister stated:

“All those who hate us are still using the roads, the water, and the street lights we provide. The only thing in our dictionary is work, work, and more work for our people.”

The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the N2 Transit Way project as a landmark intervention that will reduce travel time between Wuse and the Central Area while improving traffic flow, boosting commerce, and raising investor confidence.

“This project, with its two bridges, is a clear example of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda delivering tangible benefits to residents,” Mahmoud said.

She also commended members of the National Assembly for their crucial role in ensuring adequate budgetary support and oversight for the FCT’s development goals.

“Your role in ensuring that the FCT receives the needed budgetary attention and oversight is highly commendable. Today, we are witnessing the fruits of such partnership,” she added.

The N2 Transit Way represents more than a new road — it is a symbol of renewed drive and accountability in Abuja’s infrastructure delivery. As work begins, residents can expect smoother commutes, new business opportunities, and an evolving cityscape that matches the aspirations of a growing capital.

For the FCT Administration, it’s not just about concrete and asphalt — it’s about building a legacy of speed, service, and smart urban growth.
