The Lagos State Government is stepping up its commitment to youth development and infrastructure with the approval of ₦5 billion for the next phase of the 10,000-capacity National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Agbowa, Ikorodu.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement during a courtesy visit by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the Lagos State Government House. The move marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance the welfare, training, and experience of corps members deployed to Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the NYSC as a symbol of national unity and pride, commending corps members for their contributions to Lagos’ continuous growth and development.
“The NYSC remains a national pride. Our Corps Members have played vital roles in the progress of Lagos, and we owe them a duty to provide the best environment for service. They must wear the experience with dignity and honour,” the Governor said.
The ₦5bn allocation will fund the next phase of construction at the Agbowa camp — one of the most ambitious NYSC infrastructure projects in Nigeria, designed to accommodate 10,000 corps members with modern facilities and improved living standards.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also pledged to provide an ambulance and other essential equipment to enhance NYSC’s operations in Lagos. In a further show of support, he announced an increase in allowances for corps members serving in state government agencies — a move aligned with current economic realities.
“We understand the times we are in. The least we can do is ensure our young people serving Lagos feel supported and motivated,” he noted.
The governor assured that the Lagos State Government remains dedicated to creating a safe, enabling, and rewarding environment for all Corps Members throughout their service year.
This renewed investment underscores Lagos’ position as a model state for youth engagement and infrastructure innovation. The Agbowa NYSC Camp project, when completed, will not only serve as a model facility but also reinforce Lagos’ commitment to national service, unity, and youth empowerment.
By prioritizing projects like this, the Sanwo-Olu administration continues to demonstrate that nation-building starts with building people — and giving them the space, tools, and dignity to serve proudly.
