The Art of Building — The Soul of Storytelling.

A new chapter in legal education infrastructure has begun as the Nigerian Law School (NLS) officially kicked off construction of two 300-bed hostels (600 in total) at its Bwari Campus in Abuja — a milestone that promises better comfort, safety, and learning convenience for thousands of aspiring lawyers.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on October 20, 2025, was a moment of pride for the institution, its students, and Nigeria’s legal community.

Speaking with The Chronicles of Construction, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma (SAN), described the project as “a fulfillment of a promise kept” by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, who had pledged to deliver modern accommodation facilities to the school.

“The reason we all gathered here this morning is the fulfilment of that promise — the flag-off of 300-bed hostels each for male and female students at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari,” Prof. Chiroma said with visible excitement.

He noted that the expansion became necessary as the Bwari campus, one of the busiest and most populated of all Law School centres, has long struggled with student housing shortages.

Prof. Chiroma expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the project and to the Federal Ministry of Justice for its unwavering support of the Law School’s development goals.

“We are not taking this gesture for granted. On behalf of the Council of Legal Education, management, staff, and students, I thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for making this a reality,” he said.

He also appreciated the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, for their consistent advocacy and assistance to the institution.

Acknowledging the role of the FCT Minister, the DG called Barr. Nyesom Wike a “great benefactor and friend of the legal education sector.”

He highlighted Wike’s previous legacy projects, including the Graham Douglas Campus of the Nigerian Law School in Port Harcourt, the Yenagoa Campus, and other justice-related infrastructure across the country.

“To many of us familiar with his antecedents, this is history repeating itself,” Chiroma noted.
“The minister’s support will continue to speak for his commitment to national development.”

The new hostels are expected to ease accommodation pressure, enhance student welfare, and reflect the Nigerian Law School’s continuous effort to maintain high academic and living standards. The facility will also reduce commuting stress and create a more conducive atmosphere for study and personal growth.

For The Chronicles of Construction, this project stands as a reminder that nation-building begins with learning environments that nurture excellence, discipline, and leadership.
